Soft Metals List And How To Polish Soft Metals?

What are soft metals?
The soft metals are also called low metals. The main features of soft metals are low density, good ductility, and excellent electrical conductivity. Soft metals tend to exist in a purer form with fewer impurities, resulting in lower hardness. It is very soft and easy to manufacture, such as bending, pulling, and machining.

Commonly used soft metals:
The commonly used soft metals includes: aluminum, brass, copper, bronze, gold, silver, tin, lead, zinc, sodium, potassium, calcium, and thorium.

Application areas for the soft metals:
The soft metals are commonly used in electronics, the auto industry, jewelry, semiconductors, the chemical industry, medical equipment, cosmetics, and food packaging.

How to polish soft metals?
Since the metal is soft, we will use some softer polishing material to polish it.
Normally, polishing soft metals includes 2 stages: initial polishing stage and final buffing stage.

Initial polishing stage, the main purpose is cleaning the surface and removing the scratches. In this stage, you can use a fine non-woven polishing wheel, a denim buffing pad, a yellow buffing wheel, or a color-stitched cotton buffing wheel. The recommended polishing compound is brown tripoli.

Final buffing stage, the main purpose is to get a mirror-finish surface. In this stage, you can use a white cotton buffing wheel and a flannel buffing wheel. The recommended polishing compound is all-purpose blue.
