How To Use Buffing Wheel?

How To Use Buffing Wheel?

First step: Choose the equipment for buffing wheel, such as bench grinder, polishing machine, drill, sand polisher, etc… The following describes how the buffing wheel works on some equipment:

1. Bench Grinder

There are two options for using the buffing wheel on bench grinder.

Option 1:

Before putting the buffing wheel on the bench grinder, there are a few steps to take:

  1. Loosen the bolt and nut

  2. Remove the outer guard from your bench grinder

  3. Remove the grinding stone from your bench grinder

  4. Remove the inner guard from your bench grinder

After finishing the above steps, you can put your buffing wheel on the bench grinder, and tighten the nut. Now you can start polishing.

Run the bench grinder;

Apply a suitable polishing compound to the buffing wheels for a few seconds, please refer to PURUI polishing compound chart for how to choose a polishing compound.

Apply the item you want to polish to the area of the buffing wheel which is rotating away from yourself.

Apply more compound if required.

Option 2:

There is only one more step than option 1, which is fitting the spindle adapter to the shaft of the bench grinder, now you have converted your bench grinder to a bench polisher. Then you can screw the buffing wheel onto the spindle adapter and begin polishing.

2. Drill

If your buffing wheel with a 1/4” mounted shaft, you can attach the buffing wheel to the drill directly.

If your buffing wheel is a regular one, without a shaft, and you want to use it on the drill, what you need is just a drill tapered mandrel.

Attach the tapered mandrel to your drill and fix it tightly;

Screw the buffing wheel onto the mandrel;

Run the drill;

Apply suitable polishing compound to the buffing wheel for a few seconds;

Apply the buffing wheel to the item to be polished with medium or hard pressure.

Apply more polishing compound if required.

3. Sand polisher or angle grinder

Please choose a variable-speed sand polisher or angle grinder, and control the speed lower than 6000rpm for polishing.

A safety flange or angle grinder spindle adapter is needed for buffing wheels use on a sand polisher or angle grinder as following pictures:

Remove the grinding wheel and guard of the sand polisher or angle grinder, put the buffing wheel on the arbor of the polisher and grinder, fix the buffing wheel with flange, and begin polishing.

Run the polisher or grinder;

Apply suitable polishing compound to the buffing wheel for a few seconds;

Apply the buffing wheel to the item to be polished with medium or hard pressure.

Apply more polishing compound if required.

Remove the grinding wheel and guard of sand polisher or angle grinder, screw the spindle adapter onto the arbor of polisher / grinder, attached the buffing wheel to the spindle adapter, and begin polishing. Same polishing steps as above.
